La Casita at Interactive Spanish Learning is a cozy private house available exclusively to our students. Perfect for one person or a couple, it gives you your own space to relax, work, cook and enjoy your stay while being just steps away from your Spanish classes.
We are a small team of professional Spanish instructors based in San Andrés Huayapam, Oaxaca, just outside Oaxaca City.

Start your day with a homemade breakfast and Spanish conversation with your instructors, then put your Spanish into practice throughout the day. Explore Oaxaca, discover local traditions, and use your new vocabulary in everyday situations. Enjoy a private house, personalized Spanish classes, and a quieter, more authentic side of Oaxaca.
Feel free to use the entire house to yourself, where you can cook a meal, relax in the living room, work, or unwind in the garden, patio, terrace or study.

How do I know if your programs are for me?
Our programs are for you, if:
- your main goal is to learn Spanish
- you like to challenge yourself
- you are adventurous & independent
- you want to avoid speaking English
- you won't miss the amenities/services of a city
- you are not scared of trying out your Spanish in normal day-to day situations
- you want to experience the slow-paced life of a rural Mexican village
- you enjoy exploring and spending time on your own, without depending on a group, or other students
How many rooms do you have?
We have one double occupancy room.
Can I use my own preferred personal hygiene products during my stay?
Sorry, but no. We use only natural and biodegradable cleaning products. In order to take care of our natural gray water filter system and constructed wetland, we strongly ask that you only use the products provided by the school: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, toothpaste, and dish soap. Thank you! :)
Are you pet-friendly?
All dogs with responsible owners are welcome only during class hours. Unfortunately, we don't accept pets for staying in our guest room.
Can you accommodate vegans/vegetarians?
No problem! We can adapt to any dietary needs or allergy restrictions.
Do you serve breakfast everyday?
We serve breakfast Monday thru Saturday, starting the morning after your arrival. Sunday is a good opportunity for our visitors to support local eateries, because there are more places open to try traditional food. Huayapam is a favorite for Oaxaca City people to come eat breakfast or lunch on the weekends.
Where are your Spanish classes held?
Classes are at our building, but during class we can visit other places in Huayapam, or in nearby towns (El Tule, Teotitlán del Valle, Mitla or Matatlán).
How do I book my stay?

- Receive from us a confirmation for your chosen dates and payment info.
- Pay a 50% deposit via Xoom.com or Wise.com.
Can I add nights to my immersion package?
Yes, the cost per additional night is:
1 person: 40 USD
2 people: 50 USD
Can I book the room without paying for an immersion package?
Yes, you can book the room for at least 3 nights.
Cost per night*:

2 people: 120 USD
*Get a discount when booking 5 or more nights.
Is there public transportation between Huayapam and Oaxaca City?
? Getting to Huayapam by Bus
There’s now an easy and affordable way to go back and forth from Oaxaca City to Huayapam: the Binnibus.
The Binnibus is a local public bus service that connects Huayapam and Oaxaca City. There are two new routes, RA-03 and RC-06, so you can take the bus from Huayapam into Oaxaca or travel back from Oaxaca to Huayapam.
It’s a convenient option for getting around if you don’t want to take a taxi, and it’s a great way to experience local transportation in Oaxaca. The bus ride is about 40 minutes.

Your Teachers
Hola, mucho gusto! We're a family of professional Spanish instructors: Luz, Karina & Erika; and three rescue dogs: Candy, Ringo & Luna. And we would all love to welcome you to Interactive Spanish Learning!
Our school, originally called Español Interactivo, was founded in 1997, by maestra Luz in Downtown Oaxaca City. But sadly, by the time the pandemic hit in 2020, we were already being pushed out of the city because of the ever growing gentrification, so we had to close our school.
This didn't stop our love for teaching Spanish and for sharing our culture with people from other countries, so we decided to build a special home for that purpose: A Spanish immersion experience in Oaxaca in a small-scale, family environment.
Eco-Friendly & Inclusive Atmosphere
We use local and organic ingredients and public transport. We prioritize water conservation and minimize waste generation.
At our school we exclusively use biodegradable and natural cleaning products.
We've implemented a biofilter system for treating and reusing greywater. The last phase of our system involves a small constructed wetland, providing a habitat for insects and frogs, where water is further cleaned by plants. A portion of this treated water is then returned to the groundwater table.
We are a small, women-run family business that prides itself in warmly welcoming everybody, always!
